Children’s Residential Support Worker
Looking for a children’s residential role where you can build proper relationships with young people, work a consistent rota and move into a permanent position?
We are recruiting for a Children’s Residential Support Worker to join a warm and child-focused residential home in Slough.
You will be supporting young people aged 11 to 17 in a structured children’s home environment. The role is about consistency, patience and helping young people feel safe, listened to and supported.
This is a temp-to-perm role, with a genuine route into a permanent position once both sides are happy the fit is right.
The role
As a Residential Support Worker, you will support young people with their daily routines, emotional wellbeing, education, activities and independence skills.
You will work as part of a team to provide a safe, stable and homely environment. Some days will be challenging, but this is a role where the right person can make a real difference.
Main duties
* Support children and young people in a residential children’s home.
* Help with daily routines including meals, hygiene, education and activities.
* Build positive and professional relationships with young people.
* Support emotional regulation, boundaries and positive behaviour.
* Encourage independence and life skills.
* Take part in activities inside and outside the home.
* Complete daily logs, handovers, keywork records and incident reports.
* Follow care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
What we’re looking for
This role could suit someone with experience in care, support work, youth work, mental health, SEN, education, supported living or children’s services.
You do not need to have children’s residential experience, but you do need to be calm, reliable and committed to safeguarding young people.
Requirements
* Experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable people.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Able to stay calm in challenging situations.
* Comfortable working a 2 on, 2 off rota.
* Able to work weekends and bank holidays as part of the rota.
* Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
* Enhanced DBS check required, or willingness to complete one.
Desirable
* Previous experience in children’s residential care.
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, or willingness to work towards it.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Experience with trauma-informed care, EBD, complex needs or challenging behaviour.
