Production & Continuous Improvement Engineer – Barnsley – £45,000
As a Production & Continuous Improvement Engineer, you’ll play a key role in driving efficiencies, improving production processes, and supporting both manual and automated manufacturing operations. You’ll be empowered to analyse, challenge, and enhance how things are done, making a real difference to productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Production & Continuous Improvement Engineer’s Key Responsibilities:
Analyse manufacturing processes using tools such as value stream mapping and time studies to identify efficiency gains
Support labour and capacity planning through accurate data and process evaluation
Develop and maintain production documentation, including SOPs and work instructions
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across production, focusing on output, quality, and cost
Investigate process issues, identifying root causes and implementing practical solutions
Contribute to maintaining Health & Safety and environmental standards, working closely with internal teams
Carry out process audits to ensure consistency and identify areas for improvement
Support materials flow and logistics optimisation, including Kanban and layout improvements
Lead or assist in the delivery of small to medium-sized engineering or improvement projects
Promote best practice in workplace organisation through 5S and visual management techniques
Skills & Experience Required as a Production & Continuous Improvement Engineer:
Degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience within a manufacturing environment)
Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
Proven experience in analysing and improving production processes
Excellent problem-solving skills with a hands-on, solutions-focused approach
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across all levels
Experience managing or contributing to engineering or process improvement projects
Well-organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Positive, driven attitude with a passion for improving operational performance
Desirable:
Experience working with welding processes (manual or automated)
Knowledge of production logistics, material flow, or Kanban systems
Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD or Creo
