Maintenance Engineer
Colchester Area, Essex
Salary: OTE £50,000
Core Hours: 7:00am - 4:00pm Monday to Friday
Prime Appointments are working with a well-established manufacturer and supplier of high-quality construction products who are looking to recruit an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join their engineering team in the Colchester area.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer or Maintenance Technician with experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing or production environment.
The business operates across design, manufacture and installation within the construction sector and offers long-term stability, overtime earning potential and ongoing development.
The Role
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of production machinery, supporting factory operations, and ensuring minimal downtime across the site.
You will work as part of a small maintenance team but will also be expected to work independently across the factory environment.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on production machinery and plant equipment
Fault find and repair mechanical equipment including drives, shafts, bearings, chains, sprockets and gearboxes
Maintain and repair small plant, production machinery and site facilities
Support maintenance of fleet vehicles where required
Work on industrial electrical systems including 3-phase motors and VFDs (basic electrical work)
Diagnose faults and carry out repairs to minimise production downtime
Carry out safe isolation procedures when working on electrical systems
Work at height and in confined spaces when required
Support fabrication and repair work within the workshop
Work closely with production teams to ensure efficient plant performance
Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including gearboxes, hydraulics, pumps, valves and hose systems
Basic understanding of electrical principles including 3-phase systems and fault finding
Experience working with industrial machinery and production equipment
Ability to read and diagnose mechanical faults quickly and effectively
Basic fabrication and repair skills
Strong problem-solving ability and hands-on approach
Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
Reliable, motivated and willing to work overtime as required
Must have own transport
Desirable Experience
Experience with industrial control systems and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
Previous exposure to construction materials manufacturing or heavy production environments
