A specialist education setting is seeking dedicated and empathetic Learning Support Assistants to work with secondary-aged pupils who face significant barriers to engaging with school. The focus of this role is to help learners rebuild confidence, re-establish positive routines, and gradually re-engage with education in a structured and supportive environment.
Overview of the Role
You will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and pastorally, helping them to access learning in a way that meets their individual needs. Acting as a consistent and trusted adult, you will contribute to creating a calm, stable and encouraging environment where pupils can make meaningful progress over time.
Key Responsibilities
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a consistent role model
Provide targeted support in both 1:1 and small group settings
Support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement using appropriate strategies
Deliver structured interventions to help remove barriers to learning
Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, families and external agencies
Monitor progress and contribute to records of engagement and achievement
About You
The successful candidate will:
Have experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, disengagement, or behavioural challenges
Be calm, patient and resilient when working in challenging situations
Understand the importance of consistency, structure and positive relationships
Communicate effectively and work well as part of a wider team
Be open to training and professional development opportunities
