Project Engineer – Utilities & Pipeline Infrastructure

Location: Bristol / South West

Rate: £360–£420 per shift (CIS)

Contract: Ongoing Freelance Contract | Long-Term Framework Work

The Opportunity

A leading regional civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Project Engineer to support the delivery of a long-term programme of clean water infrastructure projects across the Bristol Water Framework.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing engineering team and play a key role in the development and delivery of major utility and pipeline schemes throughout the South West. The position offers exposure to projects from initial route selection and feasibility through to construction and commissioning.

The role will particularly suit candidates with experience delivering linear infrastructure projects, including water, gas, telecoms, power, utilities, or pipeline installations. Experience working on cross-country routes, stakeholder engagement, and managing environmental and third-party constraints is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

* Support the development and delivery of clean water infrastructure projects across the Bristol Water Framework.

* Assist with route selection, feasibility assessments, and optioneering for new pipeline and water main installations.

* Identify and manage engineering, environmental, land, and third-party constraints.

* Liaise with landowners, local authorities, statutory undertakers, and other stakeholders to facilitate project delivery.

* Coordinate design activities and ensure technical solutions are practical, cost-effective, and buildable.

* Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.

* Support construction teams with technical queries, design changes, and buildability reviews.

* Work closely with project managers, site teams, designers, and commercial teams throughout the project lifecycle.

* Ensure works are delivered in accordance with relevant standards, specifications, and programme requirements.

Requirements

* Previous experience as a Project Engineer, Design Engineer, Civil Engineer, or similar within utilities or infrastructure.

* Experience working on linear infrastructure projects such as water, gas, telecoms, power, pipelines, or utility networks.

* Understanding of route planning, stakeholder management, landowner engagement, and environmental considerations.

* Ability to coordinate technical information and support projects through design and construction phases.

* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

* Civil Engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience.

What's On Offer?

* £360–£420 per shift (CIS).

* Long-term secured workload on a major water framework.

* Opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of utility and infrastructure projects.

* Significant autonomy and involvement across the full project lifecycle.

* Opportunity to contribute to the growth of an expanding engineering function.

* Potential for a permanent position in the future, should this be of interest.
