SEMH Teaching Assistant (KS3–KS4) – Walsall
Start Date: ASAP | Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity
A welcoming and supportive secondary school in Walsall is seeking an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 who require additional behavioural, emotional and social support to achieve success in education.
The school has a well-established on-site Alternative Provision (AP), making this an ideal role for candidates who are confident working with students presenting challenging behaviours and complex SEMH needs.
The Role
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH needs.
* Support pupils both within mainstream lessons and within the school's Alternative Provision.
* Implement behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to maintain a positive learning environment.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with students who may be disengaged from education.
* Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and SENCOs to support individual learning and behaviour plans.
* Encourage positive attitudes towards learning, attendance and personal development.
The Ideal Candidate
* Previous experience working with SEMH, behavioural needs, challenging behaviour, PRU, Alternative Provision or SEND settings.
* Strong behaviour management skills and confidence managing difficult situations calmly and professionally.
* Experience supporting secondary-aged students (KS3 and KS4).
* Resilient, patient and adaptable approach.
* Ability to build positive relationships and act as a positive role model.
* Team Teach or other behaviour management training is advantageous but not essential
