HGV / Plant Mechanical Fitter - corss train to Mobile Rail Maintenance Technician
Location: Westbury, BA13
Salary: £41,000 rising to £45,000 after passing training competencies
Hours: 40 hours per week, 6-week rotating shift pattern
A major UK rail freight engineering organisation is looking for experienced HGV or heavy plant engineers to cross-train into a Mobile Rail Maintenance Technician role, supporting the maintenance and reliability of freight locomotives across the UK network.
This is a long-term career opportunity offering structured training, progression and the chance to move into the rail sector without previous rail experience.
The Role
You will be responsible for carrying out planned maintenance, mechanical and electrical repairs, fault finding, diagnostics, testing and inspections on locomotives and rolling stock.
The role will involve working both at the Westbury depot and out on-site where trains are located up to a 2 hour radius
Equipment You’ll Work On
You will mainly be working on large-scale freight locomotives, including Class 66 and Class 70 diesel-electric locomotives.
These machines include diesel engines, electrical traction systems, hydraulic systems, braking systems and control systems, making this an ideal move for candidates from HGV or heavy plant backgrounds.
Working Hours
The role is based on a 40-hour week across a 6-week rotating shift pattern.
Typical shifts include:
Days: 07:00 start
Afternoons: 13:00 – 22:00
Travel may be required before and after shifts depending on where the work is located.
