Supply Desk is delighted to be working in partnership with a warm and welcoming primary school in the Henley-on-Thames (RG) area to appoint a passionate and dedicated Year 1 Class Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a nurturing school environment and play a key role in supporting pupils as they transition from EYFS into Key Stage 1.
This role would suit an enthusiastic and creative teacher with a strong understanding of early learning and phonics, who is committed to building strong foundations for future academic success.
The Role
As a Year 1 Teacher, you will support pupils through a crucial stage of development, helping them adapt to a more structured curriculum while continuing to foster curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated Year 1 lessons in line with the KS1 national curriculum
Support pupils’ development in phonics, early reading, writing, and numeracy
Build on EYFS learning to support a smooth transition into Key Stage 1
Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
Monitor and assess pupil progress, using data to inform teaching and interventions
Support children with a range of abilities, including those with SEN
Promote pupils’ confidence, independence, and social development
Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, and colleagues
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and the wider school team
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – desirable
Experience teaching in EYFS or Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
Strong understanding of phonics schemes (e.g. Little Wandle or similar)
Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
Nurturing, engaging, and adaptable teaching style
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work full-time in the Henley (RG) area from September
Desirable
Experience specifically teaching Year 1
Strong knowledge of phonics screening preparation
Experience supporting pupils transitioning from EYFS
Confidence using assessment frameworks to track progress
Experience supporting children with SEN
