Junior Mechanical Engineer - Food Production & Packaging Location: Suffolk Salary: Up to £32,000 Sector: FMCG / Fresh Produce Manufacturing
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading food production and packaging operation in Suffolk. The site is a high-volume, fast-paced facility processing and packing fresh produce for national distribution year-round.
This is a mechanically focused maintenance role, supporting the reliability, uptime, and performance of automated production equipment across site.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical maintenance, repair, and servicing of production and packaging equipment
Responding to breakdowns and carrying out fault diagnosis in live production environments
Working on conveyors, drive systems, bearings, gearboxes, pumps, wash systems, and packaging machinery
Supporting planned preventative maintenance schedules
Assisting with installation, adjustments, and continuous improvement work
Working across production areas, workshop spaces, and chilled environments
What's on Offer
Salary up to £32,000 depending on experience
Monday to Friday structure with occasional weekend cover during peak periods
Overtime available, particularly during seasonal demand
Training and progression into a fully multi-skilled maintenance engineer role
Long-term opportunity within a stable, established FMCG environment

Background in mechanical maintenance (industrial, FMCG, agricultural, or similar)
Strong hands-on fault-finding and repair capability
Understanding of core mechanical systems such as conveyors, motors, pumps, and gearboxes
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-led environment
Willingness to develop technically and take on increasing responsibility
