Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Control, Electrical & Instrumentation (CE&I) Responsible Engineer to support a long‑term, multi‑billion‑pound infrastructure delivery partnership within the nuclear sector. This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for managing CE&I design and engineering activities across a diverse utilities programme on a nuclear licensed site.
You will act as the technical authority for CE&I design, ensuring all solutions are safe, compliant, sustainable and delivered to programme and budget, while meeting the stringent regulatory requirements of a nuclear environment.
Project Background
This long‑term infrastructure partnership will deliver critical utilities upgrades over a 15‑year period, including refurbishment and replacement of both on‑site and off‑site utility distribution systems. The programme spans the full project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through construction, commissioning and handover.
Key Responsibilities
Act as CE&I Responsible Engineer for a complex nuclear infrastructure programme
Lead and manage CE&I designers, including in‑house teams and external consultants or subcontractors
Provide technical authority and assurance across all CE&I design deliverables
Ensure designs are delivered on time, to budget and fully compliant with nuclear standards and UK legislation
Ensure adherence to management systems, digital processes and design governance arrangements
Interface with stakeholders to provide confidence that design activities meet regulatory and site licence requirements
Support delivery across the full project lifecycle, from inception through to commissioning and handover
Utilities and Assets Covered
The programme includes design and delivery of CE&I systems associated with:
Steam systems (HP & LP)
Water systems (Raw, Domestic, Wastewater & Demineralised)
Compressed air systems
Bulk chemical storage and distribution
Demineralised water treatment and conditioning plants
Sewage treatment works
Rail and road tanker off‑loading facilities
Essential Requirements
Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering). Apprenticeship routes will be considered
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or demonstrable progress towards)
15+ years' engineering experience within the nuclear industry
Recognised authority in CE&I design
Proven experience delivering utility infrastructure design
Strong technical management capability, including design review and assurance
Extensive knowledge of UK legislation, standards and nuclear regulatory expectations
Solid understanding of risk management and HSE requirements
Experience leading change and delivering strategic engineering objectives
Desirable
Experience establishing or operating EDMS and design workflows
Broader leadership across engineering disciplines such as quality, assurance or information management
Experience developing and implementing design procurement and contract strategies
Experience across multiple infrastructure sectors in addition to nuclear
