A specialist school is seeking a recent graduate to join their team as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant. You will support vulnerable children and teenagers with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for an aspiring psychologist to gain hands-on experience in mental health support, laying the foundation for further study or professional training.
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work directly with children who have a range of mental health challenges. Many pupils may also have additional learning needs, such as Autism, ADHD, or behavioural difficulties. Your role will combine academic support with emotional guidance, helping students develop essential skills including emotional literacy, self-regulation, positive social interactions, and resilience.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity for psychology graduates to gain practical experience. You will learn and implement strategies such as CBT, behaviour support plans, and restorative practices, while also receiving training in safeguarding and de-escalation techniques.
