Job Title: Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer

Location: Remote (occasional on-site visits to Wexford, Ireland)

Contract Duration: 12 months
Rate: €550-575 per day

Start Date: April 2025

Role Overview

Our client - government agency - is seeking an experienced Senior Business Intelligence Developer to support the ICT Data Team in delivering data extraction, transformation, and reporting solutions for critical projects. The role involves working with business stakeholders to ensure efficient data handling, preparation for regulatory reporting, and adherence to the our clients data management best practices.

Key Responsibilities 1. Data Migration & ETL Development
  • Design and develop efficient Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL scripts.
  • Create comprehensive data migration documentation, including migration plans and mappings.
  • Perform data remediation to ensure integrity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Develop SQL-based data transformation solutions to support various Client projects.
2. Data Management & Modelling
  • Assist in designing and implementing robust data models to support business needs and reporting requirements.
  • Follow and promote best practices in data management, ensuring compliance with EPA data architecture standards.
  • Implement data anonymization techniques where applicable.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure data governance compliance.
3. EU Reporting & Regulatory Compliance
  • Extract, cleanse, and transform data to meet EU reporting standards such as WISE, INSPIRE, and PRTR.
  • Prepare and format data in XML, Excel, or other required schemas for regulatory submission.
  • Ensure alignment with EPA and EU data compliance guidelines.
4. System Support & Reporting
  • Support and maintain existing Clients data management systems, ensuring availability and performance.
  • Provide technical support for the Client's reporting solutions, including Power BI and SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services).
  • Develop and optimize data extracts to support Elastic Search and other data analysis applications.
5. Documentation & Collaboration
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Document technical processes, solutions, and best practices for future reference.
  • Support an agile/scrum-based project delivery approach, participating in sprint planning and reviews.
Required Qualifications & Experience

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in a similar BI development role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, and SSRS.
  • Strong experience in data migration, data transformation, and ETL processes.
  • Proven ability to prepare regulatory reporting datasets aligned with EU standards (eg, INSPIRE, WISE).
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL query optimization and performance tuning.
  • Fluency in English (C2 Mastery or equivalent for non-native speakers).
  • Experience working remotely with excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Must be available to commence work in April 2025.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with Power BI and data visualization techniques.
  • Familiarity with clients systems such as EDEN, LEMA, and PRTR.
  • Knowledge of Agile project methodologies and experience using Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with GIS tools such as ArcGIS, GeoServer, and QGIS.

  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of data migration, modelling, and regulatory reporting.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data-related issues.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
