Product Engineering Manager required for electro-mechanical product manufacturing company based in Folkestone, Kent.
Established in 1926, this small but globally reaching business designs and manufactures innovative high quality testing equipment for industry (construction, marine, power, oil & gas etc).

Created due to a planned retirement, this is a unique opportunity to become a key member of the Management Team, offering a great salary, company bonus structure and exciting prospects with this highly successful business.

The Product Engineering Manager is the company technical expert and “go-to” person, and will take responsibility for all aspects of Product Design and Development, Documentation, Certification and Launch, and will manage the portfolio of existing products, via the established Change Management Process.

The appointee will ensure that the small, but growing Engineering team operates in a safe and efficient manner, that products meet quality and cost targets, and are compliant with the regulatory requirements of the markets in which they are sold. Responsible for the Technology Roadmap, close cooperation is required with the Sales team, to ensure that Strategic Product Developments are timely, and meet Company goals.

This is a hands-on role in a small business, where success depends on team players who take responsibility, show energy and commitment in order to deliver on promises.

Product Engineering Manager Requirements:

* Degree level education in relevant subject, Chartered Engineer status preferred.

* Broad Product Engineering experience, preferably Electro-mechanical.

* Management experience in a similar role, ideally an ISO9000 environment.

* Presentation and Reporting skills.

* Enthusiasm, Energy & Drive. Potential to grow with the business.

* Eligible to work in the UK.

Product Engineering Manager – Key Areas of Responsibility

Technical Lead

* Respond to customer and staff technical enquiries.

* Provide technical and theoretical training.

* Resolve theoretical and practical issues.

* Product Performance and Endurance goals and suitable test criteria.

* Oversee development of product technical documentation.

New Product Development

* Set clear design and development objectives and establish success criteria for all new and modified products.

* Generate product data (2D, 3D, Test Reports, Technical Construction Files, Supporting Documentation).

* Use recognised Project Management practice.

* Commission external design and validation support as required.

Maintain Existing Product Portfolio

* Maintain product data in an appropriate format, using established PDM and ERP systems.

* Use the Change system to manage and track changes to product and process.

Develop Technology Roadmap

* Work closely with Sales & Marketing to understand trends (both short and long term).

* Identify opportunities in existing and potential new markets, propose products.

* Define technologies and skills that the Company needs in order to realise these products.

* Establish expenditure planning and timelines for the roadmap.

Manage Department and Technical Staff

* Mentor and develop technical staff, agree and arrange suitable training, ensure CPD records are updated.

* Assign staff to carry out product design, development and validation activities having regard to their training and ability.

Occasional short duration travel in the UK & Europe, potentially beyond, may be required.
