Contract Mechanical Design Engineers - Aviation/Aerospace Industry
5 x 12-Month Contracts (Outside IR35) - UK South/Southwest
Location & Work Arrangement
- Farnborough, Bournemouth or Gloucester Locations
- Hybrid working available
- Must be within commutable distance to one of the operational sites
Contract Details
- Duration: 12 months
- Rate: Up to £45 per hour
- Hours: 40 per week
- Overtime available at 1.5x standard rate
- Outside IR35
Role Overview
Leading aviation services provider is seeking experienced Mechanical Design Engineers to join their design team. The roles involve working on aircraft modifications and repairs across various aircraft types including commercial, private, and military aircraft.
Key Responsibilities
- Creating design schemes and proposals meeting customer and regulatory requirements
- Preparing CAD models and drawings using 3D CAD software
- Producing detailed mechanical designs including specifications for:
- Fabrication and manufacturing processes
- Materials selection
- Surface treatments
- Fasteners and hardware
- Liaising with production and installation teams
- Conducting technical surveys and 3D scanning on aircraft
- Preparing design documentation
- Representing the organization to customers and authorities
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in EASA/CAA Part 21J Design work
- Background in one or more: sheet metal structures, machined components, mechanism design, cabin interiors/monuments, avionics installations
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software
- Strong technical drawing skills (BS 8888)
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects
- Experience in conducting technical surveys on aircraft
Desirable
- Engineering degree or equivalent
- Engineering apprenticeship background
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor (other 3D packages considered)
