About the Role:
We are seeking an accomplished Engineering/R&D Director to lead our engineering and R&D efforts within an Embedded Systems organization. This role is integral to driving innovation and technical excellence across Embedded Software, Software, Electronics, and Firmware domains, with an added focus on supporting the sales team with technical insights for business growth. This position offers flexibility with a hybrid/remote working arrangement, requiring occasional site visits.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Define and implement the R&D and Engineering strategy, aligning with the company's goals to deliver innovative, high-quality Embedded solutions.
- Product Development Oversight: Lead and oversee end-to-end product development, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- Technical Expertise: Provide guidance across Embedded Software, Software, Electronics, and Firmware to ensure best practices in design, development, testing, and deployment.
- Sales Support: Partner with the sales team to provide technical expertise for business development activities, support in customer engagements, and align product development with market needs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Management, Marketing, and Engineering teams to ensure technical alignment and smooth project integration.
- Innovation and Customer Focus: Drive customer-centric product innovation by incorporating feedback and staying attuned to emerging trends and technologies in Embedded Systems.
- Quality Assurance: Establish rigorous testing, quality control, and compliance processes to ensure that all products meet regulatory and industry standards.
- Budget Management: Manage the R&D budget, optimizing resources for high-priority projects and ensuring efficient use of funds.
- Team Development: Recruit, mentor, and build a high-performance R&D team, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and technical excellence.
- Market & Technology Insights: Stay updated on industry trends, competitor products, and new technologies, applying insights to drive the R&D roadmap.
Requirements:
- Educational Background: Minimum of a BEng or MEng in Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 10+ years in engineering or R&D roles, with a strong focus on Embedded Systems, and at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in Embedded Software, Software, Electronics, and Firmware product development, including complex system integration.
- Sales Support Experience: Ability to collaborate with sales teams, providing technical guidance to support customer acquisition and retention.
- Project Management Skills: Strong project management abilities, with a track record of delivering complex projects in fast-paced environments.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and develop multidisciplinary teams across technical fields.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility for Hybrid Working: Willingness to work in a hybrid model, with occasional travel for site visits.
