My government client is looking for a talented Technical Author to work as part of a team conducting studies on an exciting two-year project in Salisbury.
You will help improve the documentation held across the project and author reports for independent investigations, ensuring that high quality technical outputs are fed into the formal review process at all time.
The successful Technical Author will be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, create work schedules and manage your time effectively.
Role & Responsibilities:
Explain scientific and technical ideas in simple language.
Meet with customer representatives (primarily scientists & engineers) to establish technical specifications but this may also include other government department users, customers and stakeholders.
Study drawings, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples.
Create user and technical documentation for a variety of material, including how-to guides and instruction manuals.
Ensure technical verbiage is easy to understand by the layperson.
Gather information on their subjects in libraries and on the web.
Prepare charts, graphs, or forms to support and improve draft reports.
Ensure technical reports flow in the correct sequence.
Create table of contents and cite sources.
Gather usability feedback from customers.
Follow all internal policies and procedures as well as those of wider government
Skills & Experience:
Previous similar work
Valid DV level security clearance
Broader supporting skills ie communications skills
Experience of working in UK Government or other UK public sector
Able to write clear and concise policies and procedures.
Experience editing industrial publications.
