A full-time graduate intern is required to support the development of the University's refreshed Civic and Community Engagement Strategy. This is an important position focused on developing a range of key initiatives to help further the links between the University and the local community. The post holder will work with members of the Civic University and Community Engagement Strategy Steering Group, reporting directly to the Community Liaison Manager

We are looking for a graduate with excellent communication skills and with the ability to build professional, trusting relationships with students and external partners. The ideal candidate will have a positive outlook, be able to manage and balance a busy and varied workload, meet deadlines, and be willing to work independently. Candidates should have an appreciation of the importance of engaging tactfully with local communities and a general awareness of the voluntary sector.

The Civic Engagement Coordinator will be based in the Community Liaison Team - part of the University of Exeter's Education and Student Support department.

The Community Liaison Team provide support/guidance for students living in private accommodation and develop projects that aim to enhance positive engagement. The team also manages relationships with local resident associations, community groups and other agencies working directly with local neighbourhoods.

The post holder will work close with members of the Civic University and Community Engagement Strategy Steering Group, which comprises staff from a variety of University Colleges and Departments (as well as the Students' Guild).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose of Role

To enhance the overall impact of the University's refreshed Civic University and Community Engagement Strategy, by helping to coordinate and add cohesion to existing activities, and developing new systems for recording and communicating the impact of new initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To lead with an audit / mapping exercise of all community engagement activity being undertaken by Academic Colleges and Professional Services departments against the ten Civic Engagement and Community Engagement Strategy themes
  • Develop a new reporting system for capturing and updating Community Engagement activity across the University and Students' Guild
  • Lead with the adaptation of the current 'StreetWise Fund' to form the new Community Fund and revise the application/assessment process to meet new Community Engagement Strategy themes
  • Conduct an audit of community-focussed staff/student volunteering activity
  • Develop a schedule of regular communications to inform and update our new Community Panel
  • Promote the University's Community Day (March 28 th 2020) to targeted stakeholder groups and lead with a community engagement consultation exercise during the event

Training and Development opportunities

The successful candidate will have weekly support meetings with their line manager and regular meetings with other members of the Civic University and Community Engagement Strategy steering group.

There will be opportunities to obtain additional training and accredited qualifications as part of the role

Other Requirements:

Graduate of a UK university within the last 3 years

Right to work in the UK for the duration of the internship.
