Senior Test Technician - Optical Components

Diamond Search Recruitment is thrilled to represent our client in recruiting for a Senior Test Technician - Optical Components. A Global leader in optical design, testing, and manufacturing, providing cutting-edge optical systems and components for demanding applications.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Test Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our optical components used in fibre-optic systems. The Senior Test Technician will be responsible for the testing, analysis and troubleshooting of optical components, ensuring that they meet the required specifications and requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

Testing and measurement

* Perform detailed testing of optical components, including lasers, photodiodes, modulators and optical amplifiers, using advanced testing equipment (e.g., optical spectrum analysers, power meters, OTDRs).

* Conduct fibre-optic testing including insertion loss and polarisation mode dispersion.

* Utilise precision instruments to measure optical parameters such as wavelength, power and bandwidth.

Data analysis & reporting

* Analyse test data to identify trends, inconsistencies and potential issues.

* Compile comprehensive test reports and present findings to engineering and production teams.

* Provide recommendations for process improvements based on test results.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

* Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to optical component performance, including alignment issues, signal degradation, and connector problems.

* Work closely with R&D and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues and optimize product designs.

Your skills, attributes and qualifications will include:

* An Associate's or bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or a related field is preferred.

* Equivalent work experience will also be considered.

* Proficiency in using optical testing equipment such as OTDRs, optical spectrum analysers, and power meters.

* Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

* Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to troubleshoot complex issues.

* Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

* Experience with data analysis software and report generation

The following would be desirable but not essential;

* Certification in fibre-optic testing (e.g., FOA CFOT)

* Familiarity with industry standards such as ITU-T, IEEE and Telcordia

* Experience with automated testing systems.

* Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality control principles.
