Job Title: Senior Test Technician - Optical Components
Location: Torquay, Devon
Salary: Competitive Salary DOE
About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Test Technician to join our innovative team. In this critical position, you will ensure the quality and reliability of optical components used in advanced fibre-optic systems. You will be responsible for testing, analyzing, and troubleshooting these components to ensure they meet stringent specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Testing and Measurement:
Conduct detailed testing of optical components, including lasers, photodiodes, modulators, and optical amplifiers, using advanced testing equipment such as optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, and OTDRs.
Perform fibre-optic testing, including insertion loss and polarization mode dispersion.
Utilize precision instruments to measure key optical parameters like wavelength, power, and bandwidth.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
Analyze test data to identify trends, inconsistencies, and potential issues.
Compile comprehensive test reports and present findings to engineering and production teams.
Provide recommendations for process improvements based on test results.
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:
Diagnose and troubleshoot performance issues related to optical components, including alignment problems, signal degradation, and connector issues.
Collaborate closely with R&D and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues and optimize product designs.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Education: An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or a related field is preferred; equivalent work experience will also be considered.
Technical Proficiency: Experience using optical testing equipment (OTDRs, optical spectrum analyzers, power meters) is essential.
Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.
Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the capacity to troubleshoot complex issues.
Communication: Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Software Experience: Familiarity with data analysis software and report generation.
Desirable Qualifications:
Certification in fibre-optic testing (e.g., FOA CFOT) is a plus.
Familiarity with industry standards such as ITU-T, IEEE, and Telcordia.
Experience with automated testing systems.
Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality control principles.
