Machinist duties include set up and operation of a variety of machines and tools to produce precision parts. Fabricate parts and modify a variety of components related to the marine motor service industry. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

Recondition and machining of engine components according to manufacturer specifications and MSHS-ISO standards. 

Completion of measurement sheets according to ISO standards. 

Maintaining all machine shop machinery and tooling in proper operational condition. 

Calculate dimensions or tolerances to within -.01mm, using instruments such as micrometers, bore gages, and dial indicators. 

Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, vertical, horizontal, and universal milling machines, drill press, and surface grinder. 

Manufacture and fabricate special tooling for special applications such as boring and grooving tools, thread, and form tools. 

Set up, adjust, and operate basic or specialized machines and tools used to perform precision machining operations.  

Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.  

Measure, and examine completed parts or components to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers.  

Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.  

Metalizing of parts.  

Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate parts or products. 

Occasional travel may be required to perform duties off work site and or onboard vessels.  

These duties may include but are not limited to operation of portable shop equipment including: 

Valve seat grinder/cutter, honing equipment, hardness tester, magnaflux and dye check, machining onboard. 

Maintain clean and organized workspace. 

Work overtime as needed based on work schedule requirements 

Shop overhold of turbochargers as needed.  

 Position Type: Full Time

Requirements

Diverse knowledge in reading technical drawings in standard and metric measurements. 

Knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic components; including auxiliary systems and components, engines, and equipment. 

Capable of safely operating all machine shop machinery and equipment. Knowledge of welding, brazing, and metalizing procedures. Complete understanding of all precision measurement tooling. Knowledge of tooling fabrication including modifying tooling to perform a unique job task. 

Basic Knowledge of computers, Microsoft, internet.  

Conscience and aware of proper safety procedures in a machine shop environment. 

The ability to read and write in the English language. Understanding sentences, paragraphs, and work-related documents. 

Ability to use mathematics to solve problems with full compression of both metric and standard measurement including metric tolerance. 

Using logic and reasoning to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. 

The ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. 

The ability to understand information and ideas presented in writing. 

Reliable, responsible, and dependable in fulfilling work-related duties. 

Be flexible and available to interact with employees at all levels. 

Be self-directed and motivated. Possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 

Education and Experience Requirements 

Minimum three (3) years related experience.  

High school diploma or technical school equivalent.  

A valid driver’s license is required. 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and be comfortable with kneeling, stooping, and working in cramped and uncomfortable positions, as well as being prepared to twist and turn the body frequently and work outdoors in various weather conditions. 

Fit for Duty 

All field and shop employees will require a pre-employment ENG1 Medical Examination (or equivalent). Shop service employees will be required to take the ENG1 Medical Evaluation but will have more flexibility for compliance based on MSHS accommodations of any given medical restrictions. The ENG1 Medical assessment is a standard examination can take anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes and will include the following: 

Measurement of height and weight 

A standard eye test and color blindness test 

A hearing test 

Ear and throat evaluations 

Inspection of teeth and gums 

Questions about medical history, including drinking and smoking habits 

A urine sample to test kidney function and blood sugar levels 

Reflex and hernia testing 

Listening to heart and lungs, testing blood pressure and heart rate
