ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s I-64 Team is seeking a Land Development Team Leader to join our growing Land Development team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Our past and present clients include commercial and residential; industrial; hospitality including amusement parks; municipal and local government; federal agencies including the National Park Service, Army Corps. of Engineers, and Forest Service; and, private interests throughout the eastern United States.
Responsibilities
Lead a team including engineering project managers, engineering staff, and CAD operators to meet high performance standards for quality plans, superior financial performance, and employee growth
Develop and/or support development of site/civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of projects, including large-scale industrial developments, biotech, institutional, healthcare and residential
Responsible for project financial performance and client relations
Prepare and review drawings and specifications documenting the systems designed
Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues with them
Supervise design team activities
Manage work and development of junior-level staff
Manage small, medium and/or large projects
Develop new project opportunities and manage proposal submissions
Skills and Attributes
Highly Proficient in the following: AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Project, MS Office. ArcGIS skills highly desirable
Skills to implement the integrated services approach with collaborative coordination between multiple disciplines within VHB and external project teams.
Comprehensive understanding of design, details, and construction drawing preparation including site layout, grading, hardscape, drainage, and planning.
Knowledge of land development construction including codes and development regulations
Experience with green initiative programs and low-impact design (LEED, Envision)
Project research and analysis skills, including due diligence and regulatory process mapping
Strong, creative engineering skills and ability to adhere to office standards
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Self-motivated, attention to detail, ability to think critically and multitask
Excels at working in a team environment, including hybrid team members
Exhibits strong leadership skills and growth potential
Demonstrated business development skills or interest in growing business development skills
Qualifications
BS in Civil Engineering or related degree
11+ years of increasing engineering experience on complex projects
PE licensure in Virginia or obtain within 12 months
Alignment with VHB’s core values
Proficient in site layout, grading, utility design and stormwater management
Experience in developing and compiling/producing site plans, construction documents, specification, and engineering reports
Experience in leading and developing project teams for successful project delivery and employee growth
Understanding of I-64 and Virginia market
