JOB SUMMARY

Provides coordination of program staff and dispatching of meal delivery to qualified homebound older adults in Salt Lake County.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of clerical experience in a professional office setting or dispatch experience.

A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire.  A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire, in order to operate a County vehicle.

Must pass initial and annual driver’s license review and complete driver safety training.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Prepares work schedules, routes coverage, drivers, and vehicle assignements. 

Relays information such as route assignments, route changes, client delivery instructions, communication updates and real-time emergency assessment.

Communicates with program staff concerning client’s meal delivery concerns and/or scheduling updates.

Prepares and maintains delivery instructions, route sequencing, route boundaries, distribution efficiency, GIS reporting, volunteer route needs and coverage.

Collaborates with program personnel on vehicle work orders and scheduled maintenance, report vehicle pre-trip inspections, and daily pre/post driver check-in.

Monitors, evaluates and schedules training accordingly based on program coverage needs, maintains training progress with new and existing program Assists with training procedures as needed.

Delivers meals to homebound seniors throughout Salt Lake County.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

Knowledge of:

Defensive driving techniques and traffic laws

Dispatching methods and techniques

Basic vehicle maintenance comprehension

Computer software, technology, and equipment related to job specific duties

Proper food handling techniques

Skills and Abilities to:

Excellent communication skills to collaborate with others under any type of condition

Proficient clerical and organizational skills to keep track of schedules, routes and personnel

Knowledge of computers for scheduling and other dispatching duties

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Ability to multitask with different, and sometimes conflicting, events happening at the same time

Ability to work under pressure and remain calm during rapidly changing circumstances

Organize workloads and prioritize tasks to adhere to deadlines

Provide excellent customer service and relate to clients of diverse backgrounds

Work independently

Provide conflict resolution and good analytical judgment

Follow operating policies and procedures

Relate to customers of diverse backgrounds

Follow verbal and written procedures and instructions

Perform record and data keeping tasks

Additional Information:

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Working with the aging population. Walking on a variety of terrains while carrying items or assisting clients.

Standing, walking, bending, sitting, stretching, regularly lifting 25-50 lbs., occasionally lifting up to 75 lbs., pushing 300 pounds.

Exposure to all types of weather.
