Overview:

From the founders of Clarendon Animal Care! Urgent Animal Care of Arlington is looking for a Full-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our team!

Location: 249 North Glebe Road, Arlington VA, 22203

Shift Details:  No overnights or holidays! We offer flexible schedules including 4/10's or 5/8's. Must have some weekend availability.

We have our staff work 4 weekend days per month. We are flexible on scheduling with that. You can work both a Saturday and Sunday shift two weekends a month or spread them out as it works with your schedule.

Office Hours:

Monday - Friday - 10 am - 8pm

Saturday - Sunday 8 am - 6 pm

Compensation: $20 - $22 based on experience plus annual bonus opportunities.

Skills: Your duties will include but are not limited to: triage, assisting with radiographs, venipuncture, some monitoring of sedated procedures, familiarity with medical terminology, able to safely handle fractious or aggressive animals, handling phone calls, intake and assistance with processing in house lab work.

Urgent Animal Care of Arlington bridges the gap between general practice veterinary care and emergency veterinary care. We're here when pets have urgent but not life-threatening needs. We accept patients on a walk-in and virtual waiting line basis.

We have a 3-doctor practice AAHA accredited practice that utilizes as many Fear Free low stress handling practices as possible. All doctors and LVTs are fear-free certified, and we employee Low Stress Handling techniques at all costs. 

We are looking to add a full-time or part-time Veterinary Assistant to our team. We are very team focused and supportive of one another personally and professionally. 

We offer comprehensive diagnostics such as ultrasound, digital radiology and we have a lot of great in-house lab equipment including the new Imagyst.  The Imagyst is the new artificially intelligent cytology reader. It reads ear cytologies, fecals, urines, and fine needle aspirates for you.

We recently grew our technology to include Scribe Note. Scribe Note is the new artificially intelligent technology that records conversations with clients and turns it into veterinary medical documentation with just one click. It saves our veterinary professionals lots of time on charting. That's a win for everyone!

As doctors converse with clients about their pet and verbalize their history and examination, Scribe Note captures pertinent details and creates a remarkably accurate transcribed note. The transcribed note can be edited and then copied into the hospital’s practice management system.

How you'll make an impact:

Our Veterinary Assistants assist the Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in all of their duties

The Veterinary Assistant helps to prepare animals for exams and surgery.

The Veterinary Assistant aids in performing medical treatments.

The Veterinary Assistant will perform or prepare laboratory tests.

The Veterinary Assistant will administer medications under the direction of a Veterinarian or Veterinary Technician.

The Veterinary Assistant will obtain and properly handle/prepare in-house and laboratory specimens (cytology, blood draws, blood smear, fecal, etc.)

The Veterinary Assistant works in cooperation with staff to attend to any immediate needs.

The Veterinary Assistant handles animals and their owners in a responsive, courteous and tactful manner, and inform staff and clients of any pertinent medical information related to animal care.

The Veterinary Assistant maintains a healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities for the animals.

Qualifications:

Physical demands and work environment

The Veterinary Assistant must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of a coworker. Requires sufficient ambulatory skills.

The Veterinary Assistant must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.

The Veterinary Assistant is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.

The Veterinary Assistant must be fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.

The Veterinary Assistant must be able to exchange accurate information with all clients and team members.
