Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY 

In addition to his/her routine clinical duties as a staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), the Chief CRNA is responsible for oversight of staff CRNAs at his/her specified LifeLinc clinical site. The Chief CRNA is also responsible for peer review and routine inspection of the policy and procedures.  Additionally, he/she is responsible for all quality initiatives and proactively and collaboratively, along with the On-Site Medical Director, promotes high quality, cost-effective medical care by leading interactions with hospital medical staff and administration.  

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

May include any and/or all of the following: 

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES 

Staffing: 

Plans for staffing needs at the facility within an established budget and provides feedback to supervisor as necessary

Documents need for changes in staffing/budget and makes recommendations.

Interviews, selects, and hires qualified clinical personnel. 

Orients new CRNAs to the practice environment and ensures competency with paperwork and understanding of responsibilities.

Conducts routine employee evaluations in accordance with LifeLinc policies 

Interpret patient satisfaction survey results and address need for employee engagement/improvement plan

Perform clinical reviews and audits on all clinical services provided by other practitioners employed by LifeLinc.

Works with LifeLinc Human Resources team to counsel and issue disciplinary actions as necessary

Review and approve timecards in the Paycom system

Other duties as assigned

Quality and Communication: 

Maintains communication with LifeLinc leadership team and responds to all business emails within 48 hours.

Develops goals and measurements in collaboration with LifeLinc’s Director of Quality and in accordance with the Annual Timeline for the Chief CRNA.

Assists in education of proper anesthesia documentation related to CPT coding and quality measures. i.e. MIPs. 

Maintains quality improvement programs for anesthesia in cooperation with LifeLinc’s Director of Quality

Contributes to planning goals and objectives for the department.

Plans in-service educational activities as needed

The Chief CRNA must function as a collaborator and team member with LifeLinc team members as well as hospital teams to accomplish applicable goals and functions of LifeLinc.  

Ensures all paperwork is complete, accurate and in compliance with LifeLinc policies for billing and reimbursement and is submitted to the LifeLinc billing team.

Serves as primary point of contact for the anesthesia team at the facility and escalates issues to supervisor as necessary

Remains cognizant of rules and regulation as they pertain to the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and remains compliant at a local, state, and federal level.

Facility Initiatives: 

Coordinates purchasing of supplies and equipment and maximizes efficient utilization.

Participates in administrative decision making and recommends and approves policies and procedures as applicable.

Represents anesthesia at facility meetings and participates meaningfully in facility committees.

Ensures departmental compliance with facility policy and procedures.

Reviews facility quality performance as well as OPPE and FPPE with leadership 

CLINICAL DUTIES 

The Chief CRNA is responsible for performing his/her normal patient care duties as a staff CRNA

The Chief CRNA works with physicians, surgeons and anesthesiologists to manage the anesthetic needs of the patient. 

Acts as a liaison between referring physicians, patients, staff, vendors, funding sources, and other system departments or services as needed.

Promotes and contributes positively to the teamwork of the department by assisting coworkers,contributing ideas and problem-solving with co-workers. 

COMMUNICATION

Provides information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person

Works with coworkers to obtain required information on a timely basis and to solve outstanding issues, as appropriate

Promotes and contributes positively to the teamwork of the department by assisting co-workers, contributing ideas, and problem-solving with co-workers

Represents LifeLinc by communicating with outside entities, the public, the government, and other external stakeholders

Attend meetings as needed

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and write English

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence for the needs of the audience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education and experience equivalent to: 

The Chief Nurse Anesthetist shall be a Graduate of an approved school of nursing and a graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the AANA Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor. The Chief CRNA will have successfully completed the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Council on Certification or its predecessor's certification. Prefer a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a nurse anesthetist.
