Responsibilities:
The Manager in Health Information Management is responsible for managing and overseeing the operations of the record processing activities and staff in the Department. This position is directly responsible for creating, managing, and monitoring processes associated with HIM functions. Staff development, training, hiring, coaching, discipline, and accountabilities associated with the staff job performance are developed and administered by the manager.
Key processes within the HIM area are as follows:
1) Compiling, organizing, maintaining, and protecting confidential medical records.
2) Prepping, scanning, indexing medical records.
3) Managing electronic medical record triggers, queue and utility maintenance.
4) Managing dictation/transcription services.
5) Processing medical record corrections.
6) Performing physician education related to medical record keeping and electronic medical record processes.
7) Performing physician suspension processes.
8) Guiding and monitoring release of information functions and service.
9) Performing birth certificate oversight.
10) Performing cancer registry oversight.
11) Maintaining master patient index integrity and merge processes.
12) Managing medical record analysis/reanalysis and deficiency maintenance.
13) Managing medical record audit processes for performance improvement.
14) Coordinating outside auditing needs.
15) Performing activity to manage the discharge not final bill report.
16) Performing activity to identify errors and correct patient data/patient type errors in the electronic medical record.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Associates degree from a two year college or university
MINIMUM WORK
Minimum of 5 years experience in a Health Information department.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATION
Certification as RHIT.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Excellent communication, organizational and critical thinking skills. Computer literate. Working knowledge of HIPAA and The Joint Commission
