Overview:

Perform comprehensive inspection services for stormwater management facilities.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Direction

Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes. Receive direction on all aspects of assignments, specific tasks and how to execute. Work is thoroughly reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles.

At the Operational and Company Level

Foster and maintain positive client relationships and represent firm in a professional manner. 

Do the Work

Perform stormwater inspection services for stormwater management (SWM), best management practice (BMP), low impact design (LID), and green infrastructure (GI) facilities.

Perform stormwater inspection services for stormwater conveyance channels and storm structures.

Perform construction inspections for SWM/BMP facility retrofit projects, stream restoration projects, and/or outfall stabilizations.

Perform Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC), Virginia Stormwater Management Permit (VSMP), and Stormwater Pollution. Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections for a multitude of project types and sizes.

Document and process inspection photos, forms, and field measurements.

Prepare inspection report and maintain files regarding inspection and plan check activities and findings.  

Oversee, inspect, and monitor contractual field work which includes earthwork, drainage, and incidental construction.

Communicate and coordinate with the project contractor and job superintendent.

Verify and coordinate pay items.

Oversee and enforce installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment controls and safety devices.

Ensure construction is in accordance with project plans and specifications.

Qualifications:

Associate's degree in a related field preferred.

Minimum of three or more (3+) years of experience in the engineering, construction, and/or inspection fields. Commensurate relevant work experience considered.

Certification or the ability to obtain state certification from Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) within 6 months is required (ESC, SWIN, and/or Dual Inspector) company paid.

Working skills in operating computer equipment, software programs, and field inspection equipment.

Ability to read and interpret construction plans.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Ability to complete and pass a criminal background check.

Must hold a valid state driver’s license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check.

General knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and methods as applicable to municipal settings.

Working knowledge of applicable laws, standards and regulations relating to construction, inspection, safety, and traffic control.

Considerable skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans and specifications, and contract documents; skill in applying material testing procedures. Ability to prepare, organize and maintain inspection field and office data, reports and systems.

Ability to perform required mathematical computations.

Work knowledge of math, surveying, construction plans, materials testing and construction materials and techniques as it applies to the work environment.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Primarily outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, rugged terrain, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.

Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.

Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.

Occasional indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

Mobility around an office environment.

Occasional use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.

Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
