Full-Time
As part of its national work programme, DHCW is introducing ever more sophisticated IT systems to improve patient care, ensuring that they are joined together to allow the safe, appropriate sharing of information between clinical systems. This will ensure a patient’s medical records are available at the point of need, regardless of where they are held in Wales.

Much of this sharing of information takes place across NHS Wales’ Messaging Fabric, a key part of the national infrastructure which currently uses Fiorano. DHCW is beginning an extensive program of migration, modernisation and expansion and we wish to recruit a new developer to join the Integration Team.

The position will require you to design, document and develop integration solutions for numerous systems across Wales. We are therefore looking for an individual that has a good understanding of technologies such as XML and SQL.

You will be expected to work with staff at all levels in helping us deliver our strategic plan by placing quality, safety, and innovation at the centre of what you do. You will play a key role in working alongside a multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of new products and enhancements to existing systems.

Working for DHCW offers lots of employee benefits, including flexible working, a competitive salary, 28 days of annual leave plus Bank Holidays and opportunities for career development. We are committed to recognising and celebrating our staff as the most valuable part of our organisation.

In the role you will:

* Work independently to design, document and develop solution based on given requirements.

* Create solutions using our integration software, Javascript, XML, and SQL stored procedures and functions.

* Communicate effectively with other members of the team, and other teams within the organisation

* Use version control software such as GIT and SVN to manage development work properly

* Attend regular sprint meetings and other project meetings to represent INSE team if required.

* Keep business and technical skills up-to-date by attending training courses and seminars.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have a proven experience and skills in the following areas but we will also accept applications from candidates who can demonstrate an aptitude to develop and learn these essential skills quickly:

* Integration Design patterns

* HL7 V2

* XML, JSON

* SQL

You will also have a strong desire to develop your skills in;

* Software Development Life Cycle preferably using Agile methodologies such as SCRUM

* Application Lifecycle Management using tools such as GIT, TFS or SVN

* OOP, unit testing and software design patterns

* SOAP and/or REST

Note: Depending on experience we may offer the post as a Band 4 Software Development Officer. If appointed as a Software Development Officer, progression to the next pay band is dependent on meeting an agreed set of competency criteria managed through Personal Development Review (PDR). Once those criteria are met you will automatically progress to Band 5
