We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team. As our Maintenance Technician I, you will perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks in the area of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing and electrical servicing on buildings, mechanical equipment, and utility systems. Work hours can change especially during special events such as: Summer Games, basketball tournaments, Pow-wow or at other times. May occasionally work longer hours when covering for others in the department.

Work Schedule:

Tuesday - Friday; 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM; 1 Hour Lunch (schedule is subject to change as listed above)

Job Functions:

include, but not limited to, the following:

Performs light construction and all-around repairs.

Performs scheduled maintenance on all machinery and lawn equipment.

Replaces light bulbs, changes ballasts, and performs circuit breaker identification and labeling.

Assists in installing, repairing, or replacing an assortment of equipment such as electric switches, fan belts, water pumps, electric motors, etc.

Assists in maintaining and replacing air conditioning components including thermostats, ducts, vents and fuses.

Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment such as furnaces, boilers, motors, pumps, switches, etc. insuring appropriate operation of the equipment.

Assists in installing, repairing, or replacing faucets, values, etc.

Patches walls and paints interiors and exteriors of building and other structures.

Always keeps a clean and safe working environment.

Cuts and maintains grass, removes weeds and provides general upkeep of tribal grounds.

Picks up trash around the tribal grounds.

Removes snow, sweeps, and washes sidewalks.

Assists in ensuring building security.

Closes and secures tribal office and compound by locking doors, checking and closing windows and doors and turning off lights.

Assembles and installs all types of furniture.

Moves furniture and equipment; arranges tables and chairs, sets-up and tears down gym floor covering.

Responsible for turning on and off sprinkler system and maintaining appropriate watering schedule.

Deep cleans kitchen, restrooms, general and common areas twice a year

Informs supervisor when running low on cleaning supplies, paper products, etc.

Checks out tables, chairs, and equipment to staff and/or others as needed and follows-up on their return.

Assists Receptionist with fleet maintenance.

Takes trash to the dump as needed.

Notifies supervisor when major repairs are needed.

Fills in for other Maintenance staff as needed.

Other duties as assigned to support the efficient operations of the Tribe.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and supplies.

Ability to learn, understand and apply of M.S.D.S. standards.

Ability to learn & perform the essential functions as outlined above.

Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.

Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.

Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while recognizing situations that require management attention.

Ability to make independent judgments which have minor impacts on the department.

Tools & Equipment Used:

Plumbing, Electrical and General Construction tools, Computer, telephone, copy machine and fax machine.

Work Environment:

The work is performed mostly in an outdoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is mild to loud.

Requirements

General Requirements:

Must be insurable through the Tribe’s vehicle insurance required.

Must pass a criminal and fingerprint background check according to P.L. 101-630 standards required.

Must pass a pre-employment alcohol/drug screening required.

Must pass a physical examination prior to or contemopraneous with hiring.

Education & Experience:

High School diploma, equivalent (GED) or higher preferred but not required.

Two (2) years' experience in building maintenance or a related field required.

License & Certification:

Must possess, maintain, and provide proof of a valid Driver’s License required.

Must obtain, maintain, and provide proof of a valid First Aid and CPR Certification within three (3) months of hire required.

Must obtain, maintain and provide proof of a valid OSHA 10 Certification within three (3) months of hire requested.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, walk, hear, and use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

Frequently lift, carry and/or move items up to 50-75pounds. Drive an automobile and operate machine/equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The Tribe reserves the right to require the employee to submit to and pass a physical examination prior to or during employment.
