Work Arrangements: 

HYBRID: Qualified candidates (in or near hub locations listed below) should plan to spend time working from home and some time working in the office as part of our hybrid work environment.

HUB LOCATIONS:  Dunwoody, GA; Richardson, TX; Tempe, AZ; or Bloomington, IL

Incumbency: This position will have a 12-month incumbency period, beginning on the effective date of the position, which must be met before the employee can post for any other lateral State Farm position. Employees may be considered for leadership or Technology Engineer openings at any time, and a promotional position within the same job structure (i.e. Professional/Technical or Para-professional/Support) after 6 months from the effective date of the position. In these cases, the remaining incumbency would be waived. The incumbency period does not affect the at-will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights.

SPONSORSHIP: Applicants are required to be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; employer will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work authorization (e.g., H-1B visa) for this opportunity.

Responsibilities:

Want to work with new technology, on a high caliber platform engineering team, and in a fast-paced environment? This position will be highly visible and calls for close collaboration across many different teams and departments here at State Farm. This team will have A LOT of visibility as we continuously mature and improve the ROSA (Red Hat OpenShift on AWS) technology. The enablement, integration and support work will be challenging, help further develop your engineering skillset, and be very rewarding.

We are looking for a highly technical engineer, with great communication skills, and a strong DevEx mindset that can help make a real difference for the engineering community at State Farm. This work will have downstream effects for Product Teams and Engineers for years to come as we deliver a PaaS solution for critical business functionality and features across business areas, End User Computing, Information Security, etc. We are also looking for our new engineer to display desired soft skills that adds flare to our very cohesive and established team.

• Participates in sprint planning; provides work estimates to deliver product stories; owns development stories

• Develops solutions on variety of platforms according to business requirements

• Completes required coding to satisfy the defined acceptance criteria and deliver desired outcome

• Leads solution design, considering risks, mitigations, performance, user experience, and testability

• Assists in development of automated testing and supports code as necessary

• Utilizes agile software development practices, data and testing standards, code reviews, source code management, continuous delivery, and software architecture

• Participates in the full software development cycle including coding, testing, implementation, support and sunset

• Considers applying emerging technology solutions to increase efficiency and effectiveness; expectation of continuous innovation

• Exhibits DevOps mindset where team is accountable for product from inception to sunset

Qualifications:

Desired Skills:

• Deep knowledge/expertise with Red Hat OpenShift on AWS (ROSA)

• AWS knowledge and expertise with EKS/ECS/lambdas/IAM roles

• Cloud/On-premise networking (basic understanding, troubleshooting experience, communication across AWS accounts)

• Kubernetes knowledge and expertise

• Go programming language - API, CLI development

• Terraform

• CI/CD best practices (experience w/Gitlab)

• Knowledge / expertise in GitOps deployments

• Entra ID - OIDC/OAuth2

• Shell scripting

• Knowledge in enterprise application development is plus (not necessarily required)

• Spring/Spring Boot

• React, Angular, etc. (Front-end Frameworks)

• Java / Javascript

• In-depth GitOps/ArgoCD knowledge is also plus

Additional Key Skills & Responsibilities:
