The Stat Eng Blue Seal is responsible for operating, maintaining and being knowledgeable in all systems within the Environmental Services Facility. This includes fuel, water (hot, cold and soft), steam generation, central centrifugal chilled water systems, water vessels and pumps, along with air and suction compressors.

Responsibilities:

Steam distribution and the ability to operate, maintain and trouble-shoot the two 600 HP Clever Brooks boilers.

Ability to blow down each boiler.

Clean the boiler nozzle.

Proper handling of fuel temperature, pumps, electric and steam heaters to the boiler.

Maintain proper chemical testing and water treatment to the water and boilers. 

Maintain steam pressure needs of the Medical Center at all times.

Maintain cost effective fuel/steam usage by proper operation.

Maintain the proper flow and operation of all condensate stations including the operation of the D.A. tank in the Power Plant.

Maintain the boiler burners at optimal operating efficiency at all times through proper operation. 

Maintain proper logging on blow-downs, water treatment, boiler maintenance operation, including fuel usage, fuel consumed versus steam production and steam pressure, on a daily basis. 

Check operation for compliance of safety regulations and maintain optimum standards of safety and fire prevention regulations among employees. 

Initiate the ordering of fuel, water treatment chemicals, boiler chemicals and general repair supplies for upkeep of the Power Plant with the authorization of the Director of Plant Operations/Maintenance.

Maintain the proper state licensing credentials. 

Control Chilled Water System

Operate three 500 ton centrifugal chillers with operating pressure logged four times per shift. 

Maintain the operation of the three condensing water towers along with the chemical feeding of the water.

Log the proper G.P.M. of chilled water to each supply unit.

Compressed Air, Medical Suction Unit, and Plant Air Conditioning

Responsible for checking four times per shift along with maintaining the proper PSI of 100 lbs. of medical air to the hospital including the preventive maintenance and cleanliness of the units. 

Responsible for the proper operation of the suction compressor to maintain 26 inches of vacuum with a differential of 15 inches for restart including the maintenance and cleanliness of the units. 

Responsible for the proper operation of the plant air compressor system.

Maintain logs and the proper softness of water (under 4 ppm) along with the testing, regeneration and level of salt in the brine tank.

Domestic Hot/Cold Water System in the E.S.F. Building

Maintain the filtration and back flushing of the water filtering system.

Maintain the logging of city water booster pumps in proper operating (70-80 PSI) and alarm free condition.

Maintain the logging and monitor to keep hot water at a temperature of 110 degrees Fahrenheit maximum.

Maintain the emergency generators in top operational running condition at all times through preventive maintenance, weekly testing (under load) and the utilization of the electrical breakers to combine loads during a test or failure of any generator.

Maintain a running log of hours in operation, down time and repairs.

Must observe safety standards of the Hospital and regulatory agencies. Includes the use of safety protective equipment, glasses and clothing.

Assist in the internal boiler cleaning, repair and inspection.

Required to assist with repairs and installations of equipment within the Power Plant. 

Demonstrates competency in assessing, analyzing and utilizing data for the purpose of obtaining information necessary for effective decision making and performance improvement processes. 

Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

A minimum of three (3) years boiler room experience or two (2) years boiler room experience with one (1) year maintenance in addition to one (1) year of refrigeration experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms

Licenses and Certifications Required:

Blue Seal Boiler License.
