Overview:
Dr. Zhongde Wang’s laboratory in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Utah State University has an opening for a Research Technician position available to work as a team member with postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students and other research staff to conduct research focusing on stem cells and developing genetically engineered animal models. Funding available for 3 years but may be longer contingent upon funding.
Responsibilities:
Managing rodent colonies, including animal breeding, weaning litters, genotyping animals, post-surgical animal monitoring and care, and records management
Shipping animals to collaborators
Producing genetically engineered animal models, starting from designing genetic engineering strategies, sgRNA design and testing, piggyBac vector construction, pronuclear injection, embryo transfer, genotyping of produced animals, etc.
Assist postdocs and graduate students in their research
Training undergraduate students
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of experience; or an associate degree plus two years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
Previous experience in developing genetic engineered animal models
Flexible working schedule including working in weekends and other off hours
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in working with Syrian hamsters, guinea pigs, Peromyscus, cotton rats, or naked mole rats
Experience in CRISPR/Cas gene editing techniques and/or transponson-mediated transgenesis
Experience in assisted reproduction techniques, including superovulation, IVF, setting up timed-pregnancies, pronuclear injection, intracytoplasmic injection, and embryo transfer.
Experience in DNA vector design and construction.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Ability to plan and carry out complex laboratory procedures
Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a team–oriented environment
Ability to anticipate project needs and plan carefully to optimize resources necessary for successful project completion
Communication skills sufficient to permit clear and effective exchange of information with people representing a wide diversity of disciplines
