Overview:

As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at Velociti Services your chief responsibility is to inspect, service, and maintain our range of heavy-duty construction equipment. As a lead mechanic, you will be responsible for driving to the job site, inspecting engines and equipment, carrying out services, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance to the construction fleet.

Optimal candidates should have proven experience working with heavy machinery, be physically fit, and be able to troubleshoot issues on the job site. Ultimately, a top-notch heavy equipment mechanic can repair and service even the biggest machinery with expert care.

Responsibilities:

Duties / Responsibilities:

Driving to the job site

Inspecting trucks, cranes, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment for proper performance

Diagnosing faults using computerized testing equipment

Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts

Repairing damaged equipment parts

Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles

Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments like winches, blades, and side booms

Performing major repair work when necessary

Performs preventive maintenance in a timely fashion on scheduled equipment within a dated weekly timeline

Consulting with other mechanics on smaller jobs

Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management

Other duties as assigned or requested

Qualifications:

Required Skills / Abilities:

High school diploma or GED

Certification as a heavy equipment mechanic

Must possess an in state CDL driver's license

Proven work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic

Understanding of computer testing technologies

Ability to lift heavy machinery

Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment

Ability to work after-hours if required

Good communication skills

Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked

Effective problem-solving abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Must be well- organized and can prioritize tasks

Good analytical / critical thinking

The ability to work well both as part of a team and on your own

The ability to make critical decisions under pressure

The ability to process negative feedback and remain professional

Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate

Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

Accountability and dependability in all that you do

Physical Requirements

Applicants for this role must be able to:

Lift, bend, squat, and stretch to move boxes, parcels, and shipments

Climb small to medium flights of stairs multiple times a day

Standing for extended periods of time

Approximately equal amount of time sitting and walking

Requires ability to bend, reach and stand for extended periods

Able to hear and speak into a telephone and walkie-talkie

Close visual work on a computer terminal

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments

Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

Able to climb a ladder and work on a raised platform
