Summary:

Opportunity for hybrid remote work after 90-120 day period, based on performance.

This position ensures coordination of cancer program activities to meet established standards by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer and other quality accrediting organizations. This role serves as the point person for cancer conference preparation and facilitation. Cancer conference is a weekly treatment planning meeting physicians engage in for newly diagnosed cancer patients. Primary role function is to prepare weekly cancer conference agendas, organize conferences, and moderate conferences in person and remotely. Perform case finding for oncology data abstractors and complete data abstraction follow up documentation on eligible cases. 

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION

(80%)* Coordinate weekly cancer conferences (a.k.a. tumor boards) including gathering patient information for presentation, coordination of meeting room, keeping records of patients presented, and attendance of physicians and ancillary staff that attend. Ensures compliance with accreditation standards for attendance, discussion of guidelines, staging and concordance with types/cancer sites of cases presented.

(20%)*Completes case finding, suspense entry, follow up documentation and additional support for the oncology data abstractors as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with ensuring hospital-wide compliance with American College of Surgeons standards.

Utilizes knowledge to interact with physicians and other medical personnel on a frequent basis.

Organizes, staffs, and moderates cancer conference meetings. Completes all needed documentation.

Records attendance for continuing medical education (CME) credit.

Monitors registry equipment to ensure that it is up to date and in proper working order.

Monitors supplies to ensure that the department is properly supplied.

All other duties as assigned. 

Certifications and Licensures:

N/A

Required Education:

High school diploma or GED is required

Required one year of healthcare work experience. Prefer 3 years of healthcare work experience

Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
