Overview:
Since the doors opened more than 60 years ago, UF Health Leesburg Hospital has continued to build upon its reputation as a leading medical center and the most comprehensive provider of health care services in the region.
The Outpatient Coder is responsible for assuring proper coding of outpatient records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 classification systems as well as charge entry for appropriate coded records. Inputs coding and patient information in the appropriate computer system(s) for billing and abstracting purposes and identifies and corrects information discrepancies.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs accurate coding with a minimum quality standard of 95%.
2. Performs accurate coding with a minimum productivity standard of 95% of chart type standard.
3.Completes assigned work as scheduled in allotted time frame.
4.Uses the 3M Encoder –ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems to accurately assign the diagnosis and procedure codes.
5.Promotes efficient and productive coding and abstracting techniques.
6.Correctly sequences all diagnosis and procedure codes to appropriately optimize reimbursement within payer guidelines.
7.Communicates appropriate information to their manager when documentation is not sufficient to support traditional coding rules and reassigns.
Qualifications:
Education
Post High School Special Training
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Credentials or equivalent through AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, or CPC-H required)
Special Skills/Qualifications/Additional Training/Experience Required
Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology required. Minimum 6 months previous experience with acute care hospital outpatient coding required.
Must be able to read, write and understand English
