Overview:

Perform routine maintenance requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges as directed by the General Manager/Port Engineer. Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and procedures. Work with company mechanics as needed. 

Responsibilities:

Repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions at all hours.

Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications.

Required to work aboard boats and barges using winches and mechanical tools for repairs.

Frequently required to board tugs, barges, and ships, at dock or at anchor at all hours.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of Cummins, Caterpillar, John Deere Engines.

Knowledge of EMD and GE engine preferred.

Knowledge of Twin Disc gears, Barge pumps, PTO’s.

Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical systems and components.

Knowledge of the oil transportation and maritime industry.

Knowledge of tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment.

Work well with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.

Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port in all weather conditions.

Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance.

Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crewmembers.

Must be able to read, speak, write, type, and understand English in person and over the telephone.

Valid state drivers' license.

Valid TWIC Card or ability to obtain.

AED First Aid and CPR training.

Job Condition and Environment:

Travel may be involved on certain projects.

Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision.

Exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas, etc.)

Expected Hours of Work:

Normal office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Takes communications 24 hours a day, including weekends, concerning vessel maintenance, repair, and operations.
