Overview:

The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) is a member of PCC’s Finance & Accounting team and plays a key role in the co-op’s future growth. The SFA partners with the PCC Leadership team to track and monitor key metrics and do other analyses related to the business. They will assist on work on PCC’s annual budget model, quarterly budget forecasts, and the long-range strategic plan for the company.

Main Job Responsibilities:

Financial Analytics:

The SFA will work with PCC department heads in reporting and analysis for their department’s needs. This includes working with Marketing, Merchandising, Human Resources, Store Development, Information Technology, and Store Operations teams.

Examples of the SFA work include analysis of wages, gross margins, sales, market share, capital spending projects, marketing initiatives, customer baskets, ROIs on business investments, store development, ad hoc projects, and ongoing department reporting needs.

Based on the needs of individual business leaders, the SFA will participate in business initiatives requiring financial modeling and analysis.

In doing so, they will need to work independently to synthesize data from multiple sources such as market research, qualitative inputs, and raw data from point-of-sale and accounting systems – comfort with ambiguity and independence is essential.

Business Partnership:

The SFA is a critical resource for the CFO, Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, and Corporate Controller.

As a key finance partner to members of the PCC Leadership team, they are responsible for ensuring that executives and their teams have seamless access to financial information required to operate their departments, and for constantly improving/automating co-op-wide processes to manage and track financial information.

The SFA will work with the Vice Presidents and Team members in the various departments and present reports to the department Vice Presidents.

Financial Forecasting & Budgeting: 

As a member of the Finance team, the SFA will assist in budgeting, forecasts, and strategic planning. They work closely with the rest of the Finance team and with business partners to develop simple, streamlined, and automated processes to feed the financial model with necessary inputs and assist in managing the financial model through the annual budget cycle and strategic planning exercise.

The budget models encompass the yearly income statement, capital expense, and cash flow. The SFA is expected to be familiar with all aspects of budgeting.

The financial model requires that the analyst be familiar with capital expense planning and depreciation.

The SFA assists in developing quarterly forecasts, which include all elements of the budget model.

The SFA also assists in PCC’s Long-Range financial model and in developing its long-term strategic plan. This model projects PCC’s budget into future years and accounts for future company initiatives balanced against cash requirements and compliance with bank covenants.

Financial Reporting:

The SFA works with the CFO, Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, and Controller to develop a consolidated set of metrics and reporting package to track and measure co-op performance. They are expected to understand the interplay between various metrics, provide insight on them, and seek to find new and more meaningful measures when appropriate.

The SFA provides periodic financial reports to the PCC Leadership team and to the PCC Board of Trustees.

Qualifications and Skills:

BA required, ideally with a specialization in Finance/Economics/Business; MBA or CFA strongly preferred

Experience in grocery, retail or food manufacturing is a strong plus, with 3-5 years of total experience.

Proven track record in complex business analytics and data-based financial problem-solving.

Strong data visualization skills, and a proven ability to translate data and analysis into insight and influence.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, both written and verbal.

Demonstrated experience in building complex financial forecast models.

Ability to balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines and effectively escalate critical issues.

Proven ability to self-direct and work independently.

Deep proficiency in MS Office and Power BI required; skills or experience with database programming (SQL, R) preferred.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 is preferred.
