Overview:

Title of Position:  Concrete Quality Control Intern- Summer 2025

Locations: Morrisville/Philadelphia, PA or North New Jersey or South New Jersey

Through a combination of growth and acquisitions, Silvi Materials have together become one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of concrete products in the Northeast, US. Today, Silvi Materials manufactures concrete at multiple state locations and supplies those plants with materials from Silvi owned mining operations and a deep-water port facility.

As a Silvi Materials Quality Control Intern, you will have the opportunity to tap into the world of concrete and learn what the world’s most used building material it is all about. You will get to work alongside our Experienced and Certified Quality Control Professionals at our Ready-Mix plants to develop your construction material testing skills. Your 10-12 week experience will include everything from sampling and testing finished concrete in the field to analyzing our raw materials in a laboratory setting. The goal of the Quality Control Internship is to provide individuals with a hands-on approach to the Concrete and Aggregate Testing that is required for the Construction Materials Industry.

So, what does a quality control intern do? As an Intern you'll be an integral part of quality control team: 

ACI Level 1 aligned Training Outline (Industry Testing Curriculum Exposure)

Directly handles concrete during various testing. (Hands on Approach)

Performs the initial and ongoing testing of aggregate and or concrete for gradation, moisture, slump, air content, temperature (Real world Experience)

After evaluation of the above factors, maintains contact with plant operations and/or fellow QC members, to ensure that necessary adjustments (if required) to the mixture are made.

When the concrete comes to the job site places some of the batch in cylinders. (Field Expereince)

Performs tests that measure the compressive strength of the concrete cylinders. (Lab Expereince)

Compares that value to the design value to ensure compliance with specifications. (Mix Process Design/Compliance)

Qualifications Required as a Concrete Quality Control Intern:

Enrollment or achievement of a collegiate program preferably in the fields of Concrete Industry Management, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, General Engineering, Construction Management, or Materials Science required. 

Valid Driver’s License

Physical Demands:

In a typical work setting, people in this job:

Lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds on occasion.

Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects

Stand for long periods of time.

Kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, stretch, twist or crawl.

Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.

See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.

See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
