About the Team:

Do you enjoy working with other teams and solving problems that empower the development teams to work faster and build more reliable applications? We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our growing DevOps Platform team.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer your focus will be on building applications that are easier to deploy, quicker to rollback, more reliable, and faster to move into production.  You will create observability dashboards for applications. You will work with developers to integrate and streamline development workflows, review design/code, and provide feedback to ensure best practices are followed. You will collaborate with development teams to improve the deployment, management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of our cloud-based services. In this role, it is important to help improve the experiences of our dev teams and the overall engineering culture of the company.

You will create and build onto platforms that give teams the most productive and best practices environment possible. You must be focused on security while also enabling the developers to move at maximum velocity. You are encouraged to create innovative automated solutions and tools to help debug and resolve problems in production and prevent them from recurring. You should be enthusiastic about taking on new unknown challenges and be able to debug complex problems under pressure.

What You Will Do:

Design, develop, deploy, test, automate, maintain, and enhance products, tooling and system solutions for cloud-based infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CI/CD tools e.g. GitHub Actions, and scripting with languages like Python or Typescript.

Work in Lambda, ECS, and EKS.

Build and create VPC networking and connections between VPCs.

Build out development platforms for the software engineering teams. E.g. Terraform modules, Backstage, and GitHub Action examples.

Work on Backstage (React/Node development)

Create observability dashboards that follow SRE recommended patterns.

Huddle and collaborate with developers to integrate and streamline development and deployment workflows.

Parachute into teams’ codebases to help them with grace and care for their code and team.

Review design/code and provide feedback to ensure best practices are followed.

Willingness to contribute to and maintain existing documentation including educational content, system architecture diagrams, post-mortems, and incident management runbooks.

Participate in weekly gunslinging rotations where you will be the front line for helping developers with one off requests.

Present DevOps concepts across engineering whether through slack or brown bags.

Triage application and system issues to debug, track, recover services quickly.

Contribute to scrum process improvement; mentor team members; manage project priorities, deadlines and deliverables.

About You:

4 years of experience with software development; fluent in more than one programming language. Preferably some Javascript/React experience.

3 years of experience in large-scale infrastructure development/deployment/maintenance; experience in distributed system, networking, and monitoring.

Deep understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and tools such as AWS, GCP, or Azure

Experienced with Docker and an understanding of container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or ECS.

Built and deployed observability dashboards, defining standards and working with teams to establish SLOs and SLIs.

Expertise with the IaC tool: Terraform.

Able to write and deploy automation pipelines quickly and with care.

In-depth knowledge of networking, security, and operating systems

Understands observability and incident management concepts.

Understands SRE principles; has DevOps mindset.

Enjoys huddling with and talking to other teams and is willing to work in another team’s codebase and respect their space.

Experience in debugging complex problems and problem-solving under pressure; enthusiastic about taking on new problems.
