Responsibilities:

Adventure Therapy is a component of Newport Healthcare’s experiential education program.  In Adventure Therapy, the facilitator is guiding clients through various activities that seek to engage, challenge and enact change through experience.  All Adventure Therapy groups should include two components: the activity itself and the process group.  Certain activities lend itself to the process group being done in the middle of the activity and some activities have the process group at the end. The process group is an opportunity for the facilitator to encourage the clients to reflect parallels in their life experiences with their experiences in the activity itself.  When choosing activity to engage in, consider the issues the clients are facing in their recovery process that week.  Prior to group, staff should ensure clients are wearing appropriate clothing, have used the bathroom, and they have water.

Essential Duties:

Carry a case load.

Meet with residents/clients individually a minimum of once per week.

Facilitate group sessions as determined by the Clinical Director.

Coordinate all aspects of the Counselors role in client programming including the assignment and evaluation of Level Advancement assignments and Family Intensive assignments.

As part of the treatment team, collaborate on approvals of all outings and activities for residential clients.

Meet with family members during Parent Orientation.

Participate in family Intensive and therapy sessions as requested and required by the Clinical Director.

Responsible for the timely completion of clinical documentation (progress and group notes).

Attend weekly treatment team meetings, staff meetings, and clinical supervision.

Develop off campus meeting (when deemed appropriate) schedule for residents to attend in the community including but not limited to AA, Alanon, NA, and OA.

Locate and assign alternatives to meetings in community by accessing other resources such as Smart Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, etc.

Attend meetings, trainings and conferences representing Newport Healthcare as needed.

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree or Doctorate in clinical psychology, counseling, social work, human services or a similar field required.

Associate number with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or eligible to be a Psychological Assistant with the Board of Psychology required.

Minimum of two years’ experience providing group and individual therapy to adolescents/young adults in crisis with complex mental health background required.

Salary Range:

$49,728 - $68,376, based on education and experience.
