Overview:

Cares for patients in the Emergency Department under direction of nursing staff, by performing the following duties, and supporting the nursing philosophy. May include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night, and/or on-call hours. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees the new ED Tech and pool ED Tech team serving as a mentor to new hires and a resource to all ED Tech staff.

Supports newly hired ED Tech staff for a minimum of three shifts, increasing the new hires workload as his/her progress and experience allows.

Oversees ED Tech orientation under the direction of the department educator, completing an orientation and competency check on new hire ED Techs upon the completion of the orientation period.

Educates all newly hired ED Tech staff regarding departmental procedures, safety and health issues, and other information. Coaches for improvement and educates staff for results.

Brings concerns and/or new ideas forward to the unit manager to improve care on the unit, reporting staff behavioral concerns to management immediately.

Completes documentation as appropriate for any care provided (food consumption, bowel movements, movement, and other documentation as assigned)

Serves as liaison to nursing management and the new ED Tech partner.

Assist nursing and support service leadership in identifying process improvement opportunities as directed by leadership.

Processes patient charges and orders supplies as needed. Processes order requests in an accurate and timely manner.

Assists in acquisition of supplies for EMS

Restocks EMS supply room

Checks for outdated equipment and supplies

Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.

Serves as a role model in Critical Moments of Service standards.

Works as ED Tech as staffing requires.

Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

As outlined for ED Tech 1 & 2

•Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state with 2 years healthcare experience or

•Medical Assistant with 2 years of healthcare experience or

•Licensed as an EMT in applicable state with 2 years of healthcare experience or

•Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state with 1 year of healthcare experience

Plus 12 months experience as ED Tech 1for Mercy Health System or 12 months similar experience in another emergency department

ED Tech 2 (Advanced) program requirements met.

Certification and Licensure

As outlined for ED Tech 1/2

•Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state or

•Certified as a Medical Assistant in applicable state or

•Licensed as an EMT in applicable state or

•Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state

Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days (Other certifications per unit requirements: ACLS, PALS, NALS)
