Overview:

Produces computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of designated anatomical areas as ordered/directed; according to established practices and procedures Operates X-Ray Equipment to make radiographs of designated anatomical area.  Responsibilities include knowledge of all x-ray equipment, proper patient positioning, exposures, digital image management for interpretations, implementation of patient charges, and assists physician as required. Will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required. Recognizes the need for control/assessment of pain for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible.

Responsibilities:

Provide training and orientation of department staff. Schedules exams as needed.

Performs radiographic examination / CAT Scan studies and properly positions and instructs patients for exams. Develops films through dry laser processor or computed radiography unit. Pulls folders as necessary.

Properly tracks patient through computer system to ensure proper completion of exams Properly instructs and positions patients for exams and acquires acceptable and diagnostic exposures for interpretation

Verifies correct images are in place and properly verifies digital images for interpretations in picture archiving system. Ensures all digital images are available for interpretation Prepares films or CDs for records and files as directed

Performs venipuncture, IV patency and IV maintenance according to established guidelines. Prepares and administers contrast media according to established guidelines

Transports patients to radiology rooms and properly communicates with nursing staff for patient hand off communication

Protects self and others from undue radiation exposure. Acquires acceptable and diagnostic exposures for interpretation.

Recognizes the need for the control/assessment of pain and falls for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels and patient falls when possible. Responsible for reporting occurrences of medical/healthcare errors and actions taken to improve patient safety, both in response to actual occurrences and proactive findings, as outlined in the Patient Safety Plan

Demonstrates through actions the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for the ages of the patients served on assigned.

Keeps the director informed of any unusual concern, situation, or condition relative to staff, patients, or physicians. Makes suggestions of ways to improve operating methods and procedures.

Maintains confidentiality of all department information according to established procedures with no reported error and answers telephone and provides information as necessary.

Assists in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational program in-service meetings, workshops, and department meetings. Maintains continuing education to ensure compliance with licensing/credentialing agencies.

Qualifications:

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology and possess a current ARRT registry or be registry eligible. Registry should be acquired within one year of employment. Registry in CT should occur within two years of employment.

Experience: Less than one year of work experience. At least three months preferred. Experience in CT preferred but not required. CT registry preferred but not required.

Additional Skills/Abilities: 

Completes hospital orientation and training.

Ability to manage sometime stressful work environment.

Flexible to schedule; will work additional hours/shifts in situations of high census, adverse weather conditions and other employee absences or vacancies as requested. Performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.

Ability to answer phone and relay messages.

Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with medical and technical personnel.

Ability to deal efficiently and continuously with all hospital personnel.

Ability to work in a team environment and take criticism.  

Ability to operate computer terminal.
