Position Summary: The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products to ensure company and customer needs are met. This role is crucial for maintaining optimal inventory levels and ensuring the timely availability of materials to meet production schedules and project deadlines. The Materials Manager is key in optimizing material costs, ensuring quality standards are met, and supporting the overall supply chain strategy to achieve business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Inventory Management:

Oversee efficient and cost-effective management of inventory, including raw materials, components, and finished goods, to meet production and customer requirements.

Implement inventory control measures to minimize discrepancies and prevent excess stock.

Planning & Forecasting:

Collaborate with production and engineering teams to create accurate material forecasts.

Manage Material Requirements Planning (MRP) to align with production schedules and prevent material shortages.

Cost Control:

Develop and manage material budgets.

Pursue cost reductions through process improvements and inventory optimization.

Compliance:

Ensure adherence to relevant government regulations, including ITAR, FAA, and other industry-specific requirements.

Maintain accurate documentation and records for compliance audits.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless material flow.

Address any technical or quality issues promptly to avoid disruptions to production.

Leadership & Development:

Lead and develop a team responsible for material handling and inventory control.

Provide training and guidance to align the team with company objectives.

Process Improvement:

Identify and implement improvements in materials management processes.

Enhance efficiency, reduce lead times, and improve overall material flow.

Risk Management:

Proactively identify and mitigate potential supply chain risks related to material availability.

Develop contingency plans to ensure continuous production.

Data Analysis:

Use ERP/MRP systems and data analysis tools to drive informed decision-making.

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to optimize materials management and inventory turnover.

Quality Assurance:

Partner with quality teams to ensure materials meet required standards.

Promptly address any material defects or inconsistencies.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related field.

7+ years of experience in materials management or supply chain roles, preferably in the aerospace or defense industries.

Strong knowledge of supply chain processes and inventory management strategies.

Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and data analysis tools.

Familiarity with government contracting regulations (FAA, ITAR) is preferred.

Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience managing materials in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.

Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
