Special Educational Needs Teaching Support Assistant in SEN School

Location: Bath

We are a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) school committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), moderate learning disabilities (MLD), autism spectrum conditions (ASC), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and challenging behavior. Our goal is to support each child in their individual learning journey, helping them to thrive and reach their full potential.

Position Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse needs, fostering their social, emotional, and academic development. You will work closely with teachers and other staff to create a positive and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s specific needs and abilities.

* Provide direct support to students with PMLD, MLD, ASC, ADHD, and challenging behavior, both in and out of the classroom.

* Foster a supportive and safe learning environment, promoting positive behavior and emotional well-being.

* Collaborate with teachers to adapt lesson plans and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.

* Support students in developing essential life skills, communication, and social interactions.

* Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and other professionals as necessary.

* Engage with parents/carers to provide updates on student progress and to work collaboratively on strategies for support.

* Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of the school’s educational practices.

Qualifications and Skills:

* Experience working with children with SEN, particularly those with PMLD, MLD, ASC, ADHD, and challenging behavior.

* A relevant qualification in Special Education, Child Development, or a related field is desirable.

* Strong understanding of the specific needs of students with PMLD, MLD, ASC, and ADHD.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.

* Patience, empathy, and resilience in dealing with challenging behavior.

* Ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

* Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for supporting children with diverse needs.
