Educates and coaches Standardized Patients (SP) for formative and summative simulated activities to portray the assigned patient condition accurately and consistently, including the patient's history, personality, physical findings, emotional structure, and response pattern.  Provides accurate and constructive feedback to Standardized Patients.  Educates and trains SPs in feedback and assessment of the learners.  Assesses Inter-rater Reliability of SP assessments for purposes of training.

Provides support to the Director of Simulation by recruiting, training, scheduling and mentoring Standardized Patients (SPs).

Participates in evaluation and selection of new Standardized Patients (SP).

Assists in development of training protocols for SPs.

Assesses effectiveness of training programs and makes recommendations to leadership for improvement.

Chooses appropriate SPs for individual sessions; schedules and conducts single and group training sessions.

Collaborates with leadership and faculty in finalizing case development materials and scripts.

Evaluates and oversees SPs during training and events and provides immediate feedback.

Provides individual coaching to SPs post-encounter.

Participates in the design and implementation of SP Professional Development program.

Collaborates with faculty, staff, and leadership to plan, implement, and evaluate simulation experiences in accordance with best practices in simulation education, and in alignment with organizational goals

Serves as a simulation expert to assist and consult with faculty in the instructional design of appropriate SP and simulation laboratory sessions.

Maintains currency in simulation education and evaluates own practice through the review of relevant journals, abstracts, and scientific literature in existing and emerging simulation technologies, including underlying educational principles, practice standards, and guidelines

Assists with other simulation activities, as needed; manikin-based simulation, procedure labs, etc.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, Communication, Health or related field, or combination of education, training, experience which would allow for performance of the job satisfactorily, is required.

Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) is required within 1 year of hire.

Minimum 2 years providing simulation-based education preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information and Standardized Patient information.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information to groups of people. Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with administration, faculty, staff, students, and SPs.

Excellent computer skills. Ability to use computer word processing programs, such as Apple products, Excel, PowerPoint, and any other software needed by the job.

Excellent organizational and multitasking skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and assignments, able to complete complex, detailed tasks on-time.

Ability to compile, analyze and report on data.

Ability to develop training and testing/assessment materials.

Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a complex, fast-paced team environment.
