How you make a difference:

The Unit Clerk role involves a diverse range of clerical responsibilities focused on updating and organizing information within nursing units while maintaining coordination across units and departments. Additionally, this position is pivotal in preserving the integrity of medical records and other vital information binders essential to healthcare service delivery. As part of their duties, Unit Clerks will also provide support by floating to other units as required to cover general clerical duties and contribute to the seamless operation of the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Efficiently plan, organize, and execute clerical procedures within the unit management framework, including file management and documentation for medical records, and oversee staff orientation regarding medical record formats and deadlines.

Ensure the integrity of medical records by reviewing and abstracting pertinent medical information, maintaining various unit binders, and monitoring the cleanliness and supply levels of storage areas.

Facilitate admissions and discharges by managing paperwork, maintaining supplies, and arranging appointments, actively participating in Performance Improvement activities, and keeping both electronic and hard-copy documentation for the unit's sick call process.

Collaborate with other departments and maintain records, coordinating off-site storage when necessary, and assisting in EMR downtime procedures and transcription.

Fulfill miscellaneous responsibilities, such as proofreading correspondence, ordering supplies, and handling other administrative tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or Administration, ensuring efficient unit operations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

Medical terminology, medical records management, information systems or office administration knowledge required.

Must be able to work harmoniously and in a therapeutic manner with staff and patients.

Licenses/Certifications

Must be able to pass and maintain clearance for a Public Trust Position , if working with specific patients.
