Do you have experience working with children with special educational needs and disabilities? Do you have experience working with children with autism and severe learning difficulties? If so, New Directions Education is working with a brilliant SEND school in the Urmston area that is looking for a full-time teaching assistant to join their experienced team.

The ideal teaching assistant will have experience of working with young learners with additional needs such as autism, SLD or PMLD. Experience of personal care, feeding and challenging behaviour is essential also.

This role is to commence ASAP and is full-time, longer-term.

Responsibilities of the role included but are not limited to:

Have excellent communication skills.
Be able to build strong relationships with students with varying needs and staff.
Be encouraging and supportive.
Have a positive attitude towards teaching and aiding children's development - especially with young children with additional needs.
Assist with teaching and learning;
Help learners regulate their emotions
Ensure the safety and well-being of the student.

Supervise and provide learning support for children in small groups and on a one to one basis
Assist with the development of individual education and behavioural plans setting challenging expectations for pupils to achieve learning goals.
Establish trusting relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs and personalities.
Encourage pupils to interact with the class and engage in activities.Person Specification

A solid understanding of SEND - specifically autism and PMLD;
Experience of working with children with additional needs
Be outgoing, fun and engaging
Willing to support children of all abilities and needs
