Title: Senior Nurse Intern

This position is for nursing students entering their senior year in nursing school. These students will work under direct and indirect supervision of a registered nurse.

Located in Longwood, Florida, Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital is a comprehensive medical, surgical and behavioral health facility with 126 acute-care beds. Orlando Health South Seminole has a 30-bed ER, surgical department, endoscopy center and diagnostic cardiac catheterization laboratory. It also provides a full range of outpatient services, including diagnostic and interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, laboratory, surgery, MRI, psychotherapy services and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for wound care. Position Summary:

Performs general patient care such as, hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and increased/constant observation in a basic role with the guidance, mentoring, and oversight of the Registered Nurse.

We are currently seeking dedicated Nurse Extern to join South Seminole Hospital. Candidates will have the opportunity to work in the following units: 

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) -Provide care to patients requiring intermediate levels of monitoring and intervention.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Monitor and manage patients with complex medical conditions. 

Med / Tele Unit -Care for patients with a variety of medical and telemetry needs.

Utilize advanced monitoring technology to assess and manage patient conditions.

Collaborate with healthcare teams to implement individualized care plans.

Responsibilities:

• Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.

• Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy); and tracheostomy care.

• Performs increase or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients as assigned and utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care as part of

handoff for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.

• Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.

• Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.

• Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.

• Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.

• Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.

• Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients.

• Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.

• Transports and assists patientsthrough the admission and discharge process. Transports Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.

• Maintains a safe and clean environment.

• Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.

• Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.

• May have limited access to areas storing medications.

• Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls, and guest requests.

• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education/Training

• Enrolled in Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program.

• Preparing to enter final two semesters/quarter of nursing program.

• Proof of continued enrollment in pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year.

Licensure/Certification

• Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
