Job Overview: Works under the direction of the Plant Manager, while receiving guidance from the Regional EHS Manager, to manage EH&S activities at the assigned manufacturing facility.  Provide EH&S program management expertise to others to help ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws/regulations and corporate policies/procedures.

Responsibilities:

Manage day to day EHS program requirements to in alignment with Corporate EHS priorities, to include conducting safety and environmental training, leading safety meetings, and performing audits and inspections of manufacturing operations to ensure compliance with all regulatory agency requirements at assigned location.

Provide ongoing performance monitoring and mentoring including routine review of key performance indicators (KPI). 

Compile local EH&S related data and provide management reports regarding the safety activities accomplished at the location assigned. Prepare reports for corporate and operational management as requested.

Conduct safety and environmental training, conduct routine safety and environmental audits/inspections and observations at assigned location.  Assist with routine updates and deployment of corporate safety training programs, policies, and procedures.

Take direction from and coordinate with the Corporate Transportation Manager to provide leadership, guidance, and program consultation to the assigned location in the interpretation and application of transportation safety programs, policies, and procedures.

Assist with the administration of local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Respond to initial inquiries from regulatory agencies as instructed by the Regional EHS Manager. 

Assist General/Plant Manager/Regional EHS Manager with regulatory compliance at their assigned locations.  Ensure employees, contractors, and vendor work practices are in regulatory compliance with OSHA, EPA, etc. regulations, as well as with corporate standards and policies. 

Demonstrate functional and technical knowledge and skills in areas such as air emissions, SWPPP, SPCC, NPDES, OSHA, and other safety and environmental program requirements. 

Work with Regional EHS/HR Manager to locate and evaluate medical providers. Work with medical providers and the Corporate’s Risk Management Agencies to help ensure the procedural requirements of the Corporate’s return to work program are followed.

Respond to incidents at the assigned location. Investigate incidents involving corporate property, employees, temporary employees, or third party property which occur at the assigned location. Analyze incident data to identify specific trends and unsafe acts/hazardous conditions that require an in-depth analysis and development and/or implementation of new programs or policy revisions.

Assist in leading the root cause analysis process and leadership 5 why exercise in order to address and mitigate future EHS related incidents. 

Evaluate employee incidents at the assigned location to determine if the injury/illness meets OSHA’s recordkeeping criteria. Provide information regarding lost or restricted work days for each OSHA recordable injury/illness in the respective safety region.

Qualifications:

5-10 years of experience working with EHS compliance and management systems within manufacturing operations.

Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety-related discipline.

Practical, hands-on experience with the following: Risk assessment, equipment and process safety, machine guarding, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance initiatives, and incident root cause analysis.

Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of health and safety requirements and regulations at federal and local levels.

Ability to adapt, adjust schedules when needed, take initiative, prioritize and work effectively within a fast-paced innovative environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to influence and communicate with associates and all levels of management.

Proficiency with standard business software, including word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets.

ISO 14001 experience preferred but not required
