The role responsibilities: You will carry out a full range of types of laboratory work to generate data supporting Technical Managers in the field to maintain and develop our mineral sales in board, paper and packaging, providing samples and data to help develop sales in adjacent markets such as paints and coating and the wider Performance Minerals markets, whilst being responsible for;

* Preparation and characterisation of raw materials such as pigment slurries, coating compositions, or pulps.

* Application studies replicating industrial processes such surface coating of board and paper, filling, printing and control of water circuits.

* Testing and analysis such as rheological measurements, characterisation of paper and board surface properties and barrier testing.

* Analysis of data to give accurate mean values with correct estimate of errors

* Compilation of test data in a user-friendly format (Google sheets or excel) for the Technical and Commercial Managers in the field.

* Clear, concise and accurate reporting of results in agreed summary formats (tables /graphs etc).

* Follow safe working procedure in the lab.

What do we ask you in return? As a Laboratory Technician, you will be lab based, providing technical and development support for Paper and Board division. You will also learn about, and develop skills within, the wider Paints and Coatings team to grow the business through Innovation. You will ideally have the following skills;

* A good level of education with a minimum of 5 GCSEs and higher-level physical science qualifications such as A levels in physics, chemistry, maths or T levels.

* Previous experience of working in a laboratory environment

* The ability to work to deadlines and produce results.

* The ability to show initiative and work unsupervised.

* Good I.T. skills

* Good communication skills.

* A desire to undertake further study to improve your knowledge.
