Development Officer

This is a full-time permanent opportunity to join a friendly and supportive development, fundraising and campaigns team in one of Oxford’s highly regarded Colleges and provide support for all fundraising activity as well as enhance the donor programme.

Development Officer Responsibilities

Working closely with the Head of Development Campaigns and the Development Coordinator you will:

Monitor donor giving levels and identify opportunities to upgrade donations to meet fundraising targets and provide insightful and quality data to expand the teams’ knowledge of the alumni database, ensuring it is cleansed regularly
Contribute to the fundraising strategy and results including developing the communications materials such as digital content, email, post as well as phone and in-person communications to secure new individual donors, reconnect with lapsed donors to renew their support and secure outstanding pledges
Lead the development and stewardship of the College’s legacy giving strategy and alumni networking fundraising initiatives, and support students with fundraising campaigns
Ensure that donations and gifts are recorded accurately in the DARS database and ensure comprehensive record keeping of all alumni contacts
Attend stewardship events to thank donors
Other duties and tasks as defined by the Head of Development Campaigns
Development Officer Rewards

In addition to a competitive salary the Development Officer will receive a OSPS pension scheme, 28 days annual leave (5 to be taken at Christmas closure) plus bank holidays (bank holidays which fall within the full terms are normally worked, for which time off in lieu will be given).

Development Officer Experience

Desirable requirements for this role are experience of using the DARS donor management system or similar. You must have experience of tracking donors and prospects information and efficiently managing fundraising efforts and contributing to a successful fundraising strategy.

You must have good experience of project research and fundraising, evidenced by experience of working on large scale fundraising appeals, day-to-day activities and events where you have monitored giving levels and identified opportunities to solicit and upgrade donations to meet fundraising targets.

You must have a high standard of written and spoken English and the ability to confidently communicate with high profile political people and celebrities for example and have experience of managing confidential information. You will have experience of communicating via email, post, phone and in-person including networking initiatives and attending events to secure new donors, encourage lapsed donors, upgrade and thank existing donors.

You will be able to understand and pass on clear and accurate information with strong attention to detail. You will be proactive and self-motivated and able to work effectively, knowing when to refer matters to others or ask for help to ensure the work gets done and to a high standard. You will have excellent record-keeping and organisation skills.

You will be involved in all aspects of the development team and must be prepared to be in the office 100% of the time until you have established yourself in the team and are able to work confidently on campaigns and until such time that there is a need to work from home. After this point you can work 80% in the office with some home-working when necessary.

You must be prepared to work evenings and weekends to attend events and time off in lieu (or overtime) will be given at these times.

Location

This role is based in central Oxford. There is no on-site parking however it is close to public transport routes and there is a bike shed outside.

This role is a full-time, Permanent position with an immediate start.

Unfortunately, access is limited due to the buildings layout, with stairs at the entrances and no elevator to the offices on the second floor. Some adjustments could be made but these are limited as it is a Grade 1 listed building and so please be this in mind.
